Some prefer Mathematics.
Others, if you really want to be specific, like Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, etc.
They're all the same.
"Math by any other name would still suck."
~William Shakespeare (with a few minor edits)
Well, maybe not hate, but extremely dislike.
Hate is such an intense word.
"Hate by any other name would be just as intense"
~Another famous, slightly-tweaked line of Shakespeare's
I ice cream math. With a passion.
Well, I guess that hate is more directed towards Algebra 2, since I actually like Geometry.
I was actually good at Geometry </3
Algebra 1 was annoying for me too, but Algebra 1 is at least useful.
Meanwhile, Algebra 2 is like logarithmic and exponential functions. Imaginary numbers. Power Functions. Every type of non-linear graph you can imagine.
When is this actually useful?
1. On that one electrophoresis Bio quiz
2. Never
It's so stupid. The only person I know who still uses logarithms and exponential functions is my dad, and he's a fiber optics engineer (I don't actually know what that means). There are probably a few other STEM fields where some of this stuff is actually useful, but for the most part, Algebra 2 is unnecessary.
That Biology quiz was the only time I actually applied log to real life-- except it was a Biology quiz and it still wasn't really "real life". I was still using it for school.
I don't actually know why I'm in Algebra 2. I was never really that good at math.
My fifth grade teacher apparently thought that I had a really good, mathematical mind, but like I said, that was fifth grade. I highly doubt Dr. Agrawal would ever think that about me.
During the first week of school, when we were still going over Algebra 1 concepts, it was actually hilarious how good he thought I was at math.
He was convinced that I was like a math genius.
...but then, we had the first quiz. Whoops.
I've had so many people tell me "Wow, you're so lucky that you're already in Algebra 2. Now you can take Multi-Variable Calc without having to FastTrack (skip a grade of math)!"
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA THAT'S FUNNY YOU THINK I ACTUALLY WANT TO TAKE MULTI-VARIABLE CALC?
WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE MULTI-VARIABLE CALCULUS?
IN SENIOR YEAR TOO. NOT EVEN IN COLLEGE.
(No offense Dr. Eng)
"It looks good on college applications."
If someone uses that again, I swear, I will strangle him/her.
It's actually annoying how many things people do purely because it looks good on college applications.
It's so stupid. What are you going to do with the information after college?
UGH.
Now that I've gotten really off topic and have temporarily stated ice-creaming math less, I guess I should get back to doing math homework.
Combinations and permutations and Pascal's triangle.
Fun.
