6 bonus points versus 60 minutes of labor.
Don't bet your soul for those six bonus points.
It's pretty much a game of luck.
Everyone who wanted to participate got to go against Mr. Roche (the teacher) in game of probability and chance.
Basically, in each round, you had to roll a number of your choice before Mr. Roche rolled a seven using two "fair" die.
(coughcoughhemusthaveriggedhisdie)
Any die that rolled off the table counted as an automatic loss.
There's a gambling portion too.
You wager any amount of points between 1 and 6.
If you win, you get that many bonus points on a test.
If you lose, you've basically sold your soul for that many minutes. Times ten.
Originally, I wasn't going to play.
IT WAS GAMBLING. IN SCHOOL. MY BIOLOGY TEACHER WAS TEACHING US HOW TO GAMBLE.
Also, I just hate taking risks.
But then,
PEER PRESSURE happened.
As Mr. Roche faced down each student, the game looked more and more appealing.
Soon, just about everyone else had gone.
ALL THE COOL KIDS WERE DOING IT. I AM A COOL PERSON D:
Eventually, people persuaded me to play.
I walked up to the table and sat down.
I felt so dangerous. LIVING ON THE EDGE.
During my warm-up session, I expertly rolled the die across the table.
(Expertly as in, they fell on the ground)
I was so awesome. Then I said the magic words to start the gamble:
GAME ON.
Then, of course, I lost.
Oh, and I wagered six points, too.
Again, because almost everyone else did.
See, this is why I don't play games of luck.
Whoops.
There goes 60 minutes of my life ;_;
If you think about it, this game is just an excuse to get free child labor.
You know, Mr. Roche is actually a genius.
About 3/4ths of the class ended up owing him 60 minutes of work in his lab- and we're only a quarter of the grade.
Do you know how much work he could get done?
Another prime example:
At the beginning of the year, we also spent one period weeding a garden.
"Weed fest" aka "I don't want to weed why don't you guys do it instead"
Oh well. At least I won't be the only one.
See you all at lunch in the research lab ^.^
~On a side note, Happy Pi Day~
