In my school, we offer three languages: Spanish, French, and Latin.
With so many languages, how do you choose?
Well.

With so many languages, how do you choose?
Well.
My bus driver speaks Spanish.
Ella sabe conducir un bus escolar pero no sabe habla el inglés.
(HA NON SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE)
Anyway, we actually have an assistant bus driver who’s supposed to translate for her, but as far as I can tell, they just gossip in Spanish.
MY BUS DRIVER IS LIVING PROOF THAT LEARNING SPANISH IS ACTUALLY USEFUL.
Just imagine this: You’re the first and last stop and you’re actually the only one on the bus for the first 20 minutes of your bus ride (it’s really lonely). Suddenly, a unicorn appears and abducts the assistant bus driver
A meteorite then proceeds to land in front of the bus.
What do you do now? That’s right, you take a detour to school. Except your bus driver doesn’t know the surrounding area that well because NO SABE INGLÉS. HABLA ESPAÑOL SOLO.
Scenario Uno:
You whip out your phone triumphantly (Or if you’re still trapped in the last century and don’t have a smart phone, whip out your giant fold out travel map thing).
NOW, BECAUSE YOU TAKE SPANISH, YOU CAN TELL HER HOW TO TAKE THE DETOUR. IN SPANISH.
BAM. SAVED THE DAY.
Scenario Dos:
You don’t take Spanish and can’t help the bus driver.
Another meteorite falls out of the sky and lands on the bus because YOU COULDN’T TELL THE BUS DRIVER THE RIGHT ROUTE BECAUSE YOU DON’T TAKE SPANISH.
Terrible, non-Spanish speaking human beings >.>
See, I doubt knowing Latin would have helped.
LATIN IS A DEAD LANGUAGE.
Sure, it may have been the foundation for all other Romance languages, but no one today actually speaks it.
Reasons people take Latin today:
1. For the SAT.
2. It looks good to colleges.
…and that’s pretty much it.
“It helps with vocabulary!” says everyone.
Vocabulary that NO ONE ACTUALLY USES–except on the SATs.
Technically, Latin also helps with learning other Romance languages, but most people don’t really plan on studying Spanish and French after learning four years of Latin.
If any other reason, it’s because “Latin is cool.”
WELL SKYDIVING SOUNDS COOL, BUT IS SKYDIVING A GOOD IDEA?
(IT’S NOT)
Exactly
Spanish is awesomer.
French (or whatever other language your school offers) is awesome, too.
People actually speak French.
I’m just going to say that Spanish is better because it’s Spanish.
Latin, though. Latin is not useful.
